What’s New With The Wax Reviews

Hello all!

Now I know I haven’t been very up to date on my reviews, and I know some of you have been itching for reviews. Well folks, I’m sorry I haven’t been positing reviews like I once was, Life has gotten in the way! It’s tough when you’re working sometimes 60 hours a week to then come home and sit and write a review on a wax, OR just a general blog posting. I have been continuing to try out new waxes and waxing options over the past months, but haven’t had the time to sit down and write. But I have finally found some time this weekend to write a little bit (mostly THIS post).. And the meaning for this post is to keep you updated with what’s to come for The ‘Stache Wax Review.

So, Whats next?

Well One of the most recent reasons I haven’t been reviewing, is because I’ve been letting my beard grow and my moustache rest. Keeping your hair healthy is a HUGE part of having a fantastic moustache/beard. One of the downsides to constantly waxing your Mo is that the wax doesn’t give the hair a chance to breathe. Since most waxes are petroleum and wax based, they can easily clog the pores and restrict the natural hair oils from keeping the hair naturally oiled and healthy. By restricting the oils, it is very easy to gain a dry, fragile, brittle ‘tache, and Recently, I’ve been noticing more and more split ends on my ‘stache, so I’ve been taking it easy on actually waxing my ‘tache to let the hair regain health!

Another major reason for not waxing/reviewing, is I’ve been “Training” for Beard Team USA’s National Beard and Moustache Competition. On the 11th of this month (November) Beard Team USA is holding the National B&M Competition in Los Vegas, and you guessed it, I’m COMPETING!! So I have been letting my Mo’ grow to gain a competitive length for my category (which I am not releasing until the comp)…

SO what happens after Nationals? Well I am trimming my moustache back to a respectable length, and will start reviewing waxes once again!! -I know, I’m excited too!

Which waxes do I have sitting in my basket waiting to be reviewed? Welll Wouldn’t you like to know!

Gentlemans Moustache Wax

Westberg’s Wonder Wax (Medium/Firm)

Foad’s Toad Satin Wax

Stache Bomb Stache Wax

Woodsman Moustache Wax

Mr. Kings Marvelous Moustache Wax

Saints & Sinners Moustache Wax

Harry’s Best Formula 26

Sideshow Psycho Wax

Herban Lifestyle Moustache WAX

I know that’s a lot of waxes, but fear not, I will get it done!!! I am more than excited to start reviewing them again! It’s always great to find and try new products.

Also, as promised, I will be creating a Graphic for the waxes I’ve reviewed. It will be a chart organizing the waxes based on their hold, scent, applicability and so on.

FOR ALL YOU WAX MAKERS OUT THERE: I do thank you all for sending me tins of your wax. I apologize for the promised reviews taking so long. I have not forgotten about your wax, and I’m not the type to not follow through with a promise made, So please keep us in mind and as soon as I complete the review of your wax, you will be the first person I tell about its posting. Again, I am sorry for taking so long with the reviews.

Hope this updates you all! If you have any questions please feel free to ask!!

Until Next Time!

Gravy Jay’s Moustache Wax

Well folks, time for another Wax Review. Now I know that I have been a little off with my weekly wax reviews, but I have been trying my best to get to them as much as possible… Work has been keeping me quite busy!!

Now Gravy Jay’s has been a wax that I have wanted to review for a long time, and when it finally showed up at my door I was more than stoked to give it a go. They make 3 different types of wax, their “Classic” (which I got), “Dark & Creamy” and their “Freedom Wax” which is free of any dyes and scents.

When I opened up my package I found not only a tin of wax but also a little spatula type thing for scraping out the wax. Is this wax THAT firm that you need a tool to get it out? I sure hope not!

My package from Gravy Jay's with the "Spatula" for wax scraping

Opening up the tin I saw a Light brownish wax, and the smell that hit me was quite hard for me to put a finger on, but it did remind me of something….Then it hit me, the smell of this wax reminds me of winter time as a kid…. Weird right? Well to explain that, my mom used to boil Cloves on the stove to make the house smell good, and this wax reminds me of that!!! So yea, I would say this wax has a spice/clove smell to it.

The light Brownish Wax

Now for the big question, Did I need the spatula?? Well, no, I didn’t use the spatula they gave me, but Yes this wax is real stiff. I must say I had some trouble warming this stuff up enough to where it was really workable into the ‘stache. I did notice that when I was trying to apply it, it mostly liked staying on my fingers and not actually spreading into my ‘tache. While warming the wax up I did need to grab the Hair dryer to actually warm the wax up enough to get it off my fingers and into the ‘stache, I feel that no matter how much time the wax spent in my pocket, it was still too hard to apply to the ‘stache. Working the it into curls was a little tricky because, even though the wax is stiff enough to need a hair dryer, it is soft enough to have trouble working into curls. Weird I know!! But once into curls, the ‘stache did stay in place for the most part. I did need to touch up the entire ‘stache as the day went on, and since I had trouble with warming the wax, I found this hard to do because I kept forgetting to bring my hair dryer with me where ever I went. <– That’s Sarcasm!! 🙂

Overall my Gravy Jay’s Experiment was great! I did have some trouble with warming the wax and getting it into my ‘stache. With that aside I would say Grave Jay’s has a great wax. The smell is quite nice, not overpowering in any way, and stays at a nice hint throughout the day. The hold of the wax is good, although I did need to do a couple of touch-up throughout the day, but overall it held great.

A huge thanks to Julie from Gravy Jay’s!!! If you want to get yourself a tin, then head over to their website and get yourself a tin or two! A 2oz tin of wax is $11 and international shipping is $6. For 20z of wax I would say this is a great deal! So go buy yourself some Gravy Jay’s!

That’s all for now!

Until Next Time
